Key Facts - SRTM

  • SRTM stands for Shuttle Radar Topography Mission which acquired elevation data on a near-global scale.
  • SRTM is an international project supported by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
  • SRTM consisted of a specially modified radar system that flew onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour during an 11-day mission in February of 2000.
  • The data has already been projected into British National Grid and Irish Coordinates systems. Therefore it can be used easily with other spatial data such as Ordence Survey dada.
